Diatomaceous Earth is a non-toxic, safe substance made up of crushed fossils of freshwater organisms and marine life. Crushed to a fine powder. Diatomaceous Earth is deadly to any insect yet completely harmless to animals. Diatomaceous Earth’s mode of action for insect and parasite control is strictly mechanical. The microscopically sharp edges contact the insect or parasite and pierce their protective coating, so they soon dehydrate and die. The larvae is affected in the same way. Internal parasites can be controlled by giving Diatomaceous Earth internally. It is very important to note that it must be food grade (which is only used in this product) – the earth used in gardens and pool filters can damage your dog. Diatomaceous Earth can eliminate roundworms, whipworms, pinworms, and hookworms within seven days of being fed daily. To be most effective, Diatomaceous Earth should be fed for at least 30 days, to catch all newly hatching eggs or the cycling of the worms through the lungs and back to the stomach. Another use for Diatomaceous Earth is the control of external parasites and flies. This is achieved by dusting your dog with Diatomaceous Earth, along with his bedding area and surrounding carpeted areas. Other Uses Diatomaceous Earth has also been reported in scientific literature to absorb methyl mercury, e-coli, endotoxins, viruses, organophosphate pesticide residues, drug resides, and protein, perhaps even the proteinaceous toxins produced by some intestinal infections. Given this, Diatomaceous Earth is very useful as a detox solution, digestive aid and colon cleanser. For external parasite control, simply rub the powder at full strength into the coat for fleas, mites and lice and sprinkle on bedding.

For Cats and Dogs While it’s more common to use Diatomaceous Earth as a flea prevention, many people have added small amounts of DE to their pet’s diet. There a numerous benefits a pet can receive from a consistent dosage of DE. DE is largely made up of amorphous silica, but it also contains calcium, magnesium, titanium dioxide, gallium, sodium and other trace minerals. Keep in mind that there are different grades of diatomaceous earth, so make sure you purchase food grade diatomaceous earth for your pet. The instructions below are on how to feed your cat DE. The type of food you are giving your cat will also affect the way to give it to them. Wet Food: Remove the food from the can and add it to the dish. Then add the appropriate dose of DE and mix in. Dry Food: Cats may be sceptical of their dry cat food if it has a white powder on it, that’s why we  suggest this method for adding DE to your cat’s food. Method for Cat Step 1: Take note of the number of servings in the bag of cat food. Step 2: Multiply the appropriate DE dosage by the number of servings. Add that amount of DE to the bag of cat food and shake the bag to distribute it evenly. The DE will absorb the scent of the cat food and be almost indistinguishable from it allowing your cat to enjoy their food.   Method : Damp Approach Step 1: Mix the dosage of DE with a quarter cup of water. Step 2: Pour the mixture over your cat’s dry food coating most of it. As you feed your cat DE you can rest easy knowing that you are helping promote their health and happiness.
Be sure not to get the product in the animal’s eyes or ears. Re-apply if the animal gets wet or when the powder is no longer present.

For Dogs *We recommend you hold off on adding DE to their diet until they move to solid food. The type of food you are giving your dog will also affect the way to give it to them.
